A listed 'top terror' was killed in a reported gunfight with detectives at Katapara of Madhabdi municipality area early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Mithun, 30, son of Jakir Hossain of the area. Tipped off that the top terror Mithun and his associates would gather in the area, a team of DB police raided the area around 2 am, said Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge of DB police. The terrorists opened fire when the DB team reached there, forcing them to fire back in self-defence that triggered the gunfight, he said. Mithun sustained bullet wound during the skirmish.
He was taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the OC added. Police arrested four associates of Mithun and recovered two foreign pistols and a shutter gun from the spot. The OC said Mithun was wanted in 12 cases.
