The mobile courts of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DSCC) conducted drives at different parts of the city with the aim to curb the breeding of dengue mosquitoes in the capital. The DNCC yesterday (Saturday) detected the presence of the larvae of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which acts as the carrier of the dengue virus, in 162 houses and establishments during its combing drive, aimed at combating dengue through vector control in 36 original wards under its jurisdiction. The drives were conducted under the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009.
DNCC sources said some 10,538 houses were inspected in the 36 wards during the seventh day of the combing drive. In each of the 162 cases where larvae were found, stickers were attached near the entrance gate that contained the warning: “Ai barite Aedes moshar larva pawa jai” (Aedes mosquito larvae found here).
Besides, conditions friendly for the breeding of Aedes aegypti such as clear, still water were found in some 6,035 houses and establishments. These were subsequently destroyed.
Actual larvae of Aedes aegypti have so far been found in 1,540 out of 73,815 locations inspected during the first seven days of the combing drive that started on August 25. Besides, breeding grounds in 39,599 houses and establishments were destroyed during the period, said DNCC public relations officer ASM Mamun through a press release.
