Ruman leads Bangladesh to Asia Cup Archery

BAF rope in Modhumoti Bank as new sponsor

Country’s famed international archer Ruman Sana will lead a four member team to participate in the 2019 Asia Cup- World Ranking Tournament, Stage-3 to be held in New Clark City, Philippines. Apart from four archers two officials – coach and manager – will also accompany the team scheduled to leave for Philippines on September 7 at 2am and return home September 16. Fifteen countries will take part in the championship which will be held from September 9 to 15.

Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) General Secretary Kazi Rajibuddin Ahmed Chapal stated this at a press conference at BOA auditorium in the capital yesterday. He introduced senior executives of Modhumoti Bank Limited. who is sponsoring the Bangladesh team. Md Shafiul Azam, managing and CEO of the bank also spoke on the occasion. He said that his bank has come forward to patronise the game as part of its social corporate responsibility.

“This is not first time, we have already sponsored a big tournament like Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Tournament besides Bangabandhu Inter University Football tournament “This time we have a signed deal with BAF to sponsor six domestic events barring the Asia Cup in 2019-20 season. I think with sponsoring these tournament we can contribute a little to develop the standard of archery which would be a very prospective and promising game for the country.”

BAF general secretary said that Modhumoti Bank has committed to provide the federation Tk 30 lakh for this seven tournaments. I hope the bank would remain with us for a longer period and at the same time it would increase the sponsorship money.

Bangladesh coach Martin Fredrick said this time has selected four archers only for recurve events from the ongoing training camp for the South Asian Games in Nepal. Replaying to a question he said that he has no option to select for compound events because of fund constraints. However, he hopes Bangladesh would develop its ranking points. “I don’t want to set any specific target for the archers. It would be happy our archers including Ruman Sana could improved their ranking points,” concluded Fredrick.

Besides Ruman Sana, Mohammad Tamimul Islam, Mohammad Hakim Ahmed Rubel and Beauty Roy are three other archers. Anis Rahman Dipu, joint secretary BAF, is accompanying team as manager.

 Meanwhile, Bangladesh Army Club team will leave Dhaka tomorrow for Kyrgyzstan to take part in the Second International Archery Championship to be held in Bishkek. Ten teams are expected to take part in this tournament. BAF General Secretary Kazi Rajibuddin Ahmed Chapal will accompany the team as technical delegate.
