Practice match yields good for Tigers

Shakib Al Hasan led Red XI dominated over Mushfiqur Rahim’s Green XI with the ball on final day of the two-day practice match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday. Keeping the one-off Test series against Afghanistan in mind, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) arranged the practice match for the players. Soumya Sarkar and Shadman Islam started horribly with the bat for Green XI as the duo were sent back to the pavilion for ducks while the scorecard was reading 0 for two.

Green XI skipper Mushfiqur Rahim joined Mominul Islam to handle the bowlers but he couldn’t stay long at the crease after Abu Jayed Rahi dismissed him with a beautiful delivery. Green XI were in all sorts of trouble after 15-3 at one stage. Mosaddek Hossain Saikat and Mominul Haque then tried to rebuild the innings but both fell victims of Rahi to leave Green XI in total disarray. They mislaid seven wickets below 100 on the board and ultimately bundled out for 125. Saikat top scored with 51.

Fast bowler Abu Jayed Rahi and spinner Mahmudullah Riyad evenly shared six wickets between them for Red XI. Earlier of the day one, Mahmudullah’s brilliant hundred  helped Red XI compile 289.
