She breaks 200m sprint record

Shirin Akhter earned the distinction of winning double gold in the National Summer Athletics when she clinched the 200 meter sprint title with setting record time yesterday at Bangabandhu National Stadium following her women’s 100 meter sprint gold on the opening day.

Saiful Ismail Khan Sunny won the gold in men’s division of the 200 meter sprint of the meet. Shirin Akhter finished with 24:97 seconds when her closest contender and the Navy team-mate Shohagi Akhter completed on 25:19 and Sharifa Khatun finished third with 24:25.

Saiful Ismail Khan Sunny, athlete of Bangladesh Navy regained his title in the 200 meter sprint when he earned the feat in 2017 Summer meet and could not participate in 2018, he was sick was and had hospitalized due to some physical complications.

However, Saiful Ismail in his reaction said, “After recovering my illness, I worked hard last more than two months since June and I gained my confidence that, whoever would come, I would be able to beat him.”

Meanwhile, the day’s highlight was Mahfuzur Rahman set a record in the high jump when he crossed 2:15 meter to win the gold.     

Mahfuzur Rahman, the athlete of Bangladesh Navy won the sixth gold in the National and National Summer competition said, “I have been trying to set a record for last five years but succeeded in the sixth attempt.”

Mahfuzur, 18 years old man from Kushtia once dreamed to join in the defense service, whether Army or Navy, said, “After participating in the national championship in 2015, Naval coach Rafiqul Islam Sir picked me and finally joined in the Navy in 2018.”
