Tajikistan bound 23-member final squad of the Bangladesh national football team was finalised yesterday who are leaving Dhaka for Dushanbe today when they play their first match of the joint Asia Cup and FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers on September 10. The away match of Bangladesh against Afghanistan will take place at the Republic Central Stadium, Dushanbe.
The head coach of the national team Jamie Day did not consider three players from the 26-member preliminary list when he left out goalkeeper Mazharul Islam Himel, defenders Nurul Naiyum Faisal and Manzurur Rahman Manik.
Earlier, the preliminary squad was for 25 players and Himel was called later on but during the final squad for Afghanistan match Himel was overlooked. However, Bangladesh, who will fly to Tajikistan today will have eight days conditioning camp in Dushanbe and will schedule to play two preparation matches against two local teams – FC Kuktosh on September 3 and CSKA Pamir on September 5.
The squad of 23 players are – Asharaful Islam Rana, Shahidul Alam Sohel and Anisur Rahman Zico (goalkeeper), Biswanath Ghosh, Tutul Hossain Badshah, Shushanta Tripura, Rahmat Meah, Yasin Khan, Riyadul Hassan and Yasin Arafat (defenders), Masuk Meah Jony, Jamal Bhuiyan, Mamunul Islam, Sohel Rana, Robiul Hassan, Biplu Ahmed, Arifur Rahman and Mohammed Ibrahim (midfielders), Nabib Newaz Jibon, Mahbubur Rahman Shufil, Matin Meah, Saad Uddin and Jewel Rana (forwards).
