2 ex-ministers of finance felicitated

Two former finance ministers of outstanding repute, M Syeduzzaman and Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, have been felicitated for their outstanding contribution to the country’s economic progress. Banik Barta, a vernacular daily, and the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies jointly bestowed the recognition through an event held at a city hotel on Thursday.

Syeduzzaman was chief finance secretary and finance ministry affairs adviser to the president from 1984-1987. Later, he was appointed as minister in the Finance Ministry.

He was the founding chairman of PKSF, the pioneering institution focused on rural livelihoods.

Abul Maal Abdul Muhith thanked the organizers for recognizing him alongside Syeduzzaman.

"We worked together in the civil service. Syeduzzaman did lots of good work during his tenure as finance minister," he also said.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Private Sector and Investment Salman F Rahman said their contribution was vast in the country’s economy.

"The ministers were most accessible for businesses of the country," he also said.
