Left-handed opening batsman Shadman Islam has said that he is ready to face Afghan spin attack without worry and feeling no extra pressure of Rashid Khan ahead of the one-off Test match slated to begin from September 5 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
‘‘Of course, I’ve chalked out an extra plan to play against Afghanistan because they’ve quality spin attack, especially Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi bowl with a lot of variations. So’ I’ve been spending more times dealing with spin,’’ Shadman told reporters about his plan in front of the national cricket academy of the Sher-e Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
‘‘We aren’t thinking of Rashid Khan as a team. Bowling in Tests or inT20Is aren’t same either. We also have some good spinners whom we regularly play in Bangladesh. I don’t think he could pose any extra pressure on us. So, we’ve no extra plan for him,’’ Shadman said of Rashid Khan.
“I didn’t get Tamim bhai in my Test debut. I opened with Soumya bhai in that Test. Actually the way I bat or play cricket naturally, I want to continue that without thinking too much. The plan I had executed playing for A team in India or in first class matches, I will go with that. There will be no extra plan in my playing style,” Shadman viewed.
When asked about ICC Test Championship, Shadman said, ‘‘A team basically plays a lot of four-day matches. But our main preparation and four-day practice match began with the BCB XI tour in India. We are thinking of only Test cricket now because we’ve no shorter format of matches in coming days. I’m also focusing more on Test cricket. Obviously, we all want to bring some positive results under our belt.”
“We don’t play too many Test matches. But it’s good to see we’ll play a lot more Test matches from now on. We’ll improve our ranking in Test, if we could play well in those matches. Everyone is thinking of that and Insha Allah we’ll play better cricket,” he concluded.
