Cop among 4 ‘commit suicide’ in 3 dists

Four people including a sub-inspector of police reportedly committed suicide in Kurigram, Bhola and Gazipur districts. A UNB report says a sub-inspector of police reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his rented house in Kurigram district town yesterday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Selim Jahangir, 38, son of Abul Kalam Azad of Phulbari upazila in Dinajpur district. He was posted at Sadar police camp.

Our Gazipur correspondent adds: Police recovered the bodies of a man and his son from a house at Hazibari in Tongi of Gazipur city early yesterday. The deceased were identified as Abdul Halim, 40, of Boteshwar village in Belabo upazila of Narsingdi district and his son Noman Hossain, 8.

Around 3am neighbours ran to Halim’s house as they heard his wife Isnahar screaming. They found Noman lying motionless on the floor while Halim was hanging strangled with the grill of balcony.

In another incident, a woman died of self-immolation after an altercation with her son at Dalalpur village in Borhanuddin upazila on Tuesday evening. The deceased was named as Parul, 35, wife of late Iqbal Patwari of the village.

Robin stopped going to madrasa several days ago despite her repeated requests. Parul set herself on fire in the afternoon. Locals took her to Sadar Hospital where she died around 7pm, he added.
