Bangladesh High Performance (HP) team off-spinner Nayem Hasan claimed a four wicket-haul as the hosts dominated the 1st innings proceedings against touring Sri Lanka HP on day 2 of the first unofficial Test at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna yesterday.
Having resumed the overnight score of 233, ton-up Shanto, who was unbeaten on 124 after day one, could not convert his innings further and added just 9 runs to his tally before being given LBW off Kalana Perera early in the first session on day two.
Zakir Hasan and Nayeem Hasan tried to carry the momentum for the hosts and made smart contribution with the bat scoring 49 and 36 respectively. The duo also added a crucial 58-run for the seventh wicket to help post the hosts 336 all out.
For the visitors, Ramesh Mendis bagged four wickets while Asitha Fernando and Kalana Perera shared two wickets apiece.
The visiting side should be a happier side with the ball on day 2 after restricting the Bangladesh youngsters to below 400. But with the bat they made a sloppy start, losing their top four batsmen to a single bowler Nayeem Hasan, who ran riot against the batsmen with his off-spin variations.
After tumbling at 59 for four, the visiting side could manage to post 101 without losing any more wicket, still trailing by 259 runs before umpires drawn the bails off for day 2.
