$50,000 will be awarded to champions

An 18-member organising committee was finalised with the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the chief patron and Finance Minister AFM Mustafa Kamal was made the chairman to organise the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup Football Tournament.

The only international Club Cup football tournament of the country has been organising by the Chittagong Abahani Limited after the name of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman since 2015.  The tournament will be powered by Saif Tec who will sponsor the major amount of the tournament.

The third edition of the tournament will be held from October 19-31 at the M A Aziz Stadium Chottogram with eight to 10 clubs team from home and abroad will take part in the 13-day competition.

Tarafdar Ruhul Amin, the chief coordinator of the tournament stated this at a press conference that this time they are yet to confirm when the tournament will be organised with eight teams or 10 teams. Six teams, three from home and as many overseas teams have already been confirmed.

The committee was approved by the chairman of the organising committee, as Tarafdar Ruhul Amin informed the reporters.  

Tarafdar explained that this time they want to organise to make the tournament more colorful and success, as they have already started the ground works with giving requisition to the Sports Ministry and the National Sports Council (NSC) to have the entitlement to renovate the M A Aziz Stadium. Tarafdar informed that they have already have the green signal from the Ministry (Sports Ministry) and the NSC that the stadium will be handed over to them (LOC) from September 1.

However, one of the main issues of participating teams, Tarafdar informed that till now they have confirmed six teams – Kolkata Mohun Bagan, Kolkata Mohammedan Sporting Club and the defending champions of the tournament TC Sports Club of Maldives as three foreign teams and the hosts Chittagong Abahani Limited, Bashundhara Kings and Abahani Limited (Dhaka) are the teams from home.

Tarafdar said, “We have already confirmed three foreign teams, Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan from Kolkata and the defending champions TC from Maldives confirmed us and East Bengal of Kolkata just gave us their verbal  consent.”

“We have also invited a team each from Malaysia and Thailand and the top team of Nepal, Three Star Club. Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club is very much interested to play in the tournament,” said Tarafdar. Replying to a query, Tarafdar said, “In fact the issue of number of participation teams still under consideration, we may also organise the tournament with 10 teams this time.

The budget of the estimated for Taka 10 million when the champions will receive $50,000, runners-up will be awarded $25,000 and every team will get $10,000 dollars as participation money.

Organizers will also provide the local hospitalities and the air tickets also to the foreign teams, as Tarafdar concluded.
