In a bid to strengthen the fast-bowling arsenal Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will soon arrange a pacer hunting programme after the end of the forthcoming home series against Zimbabwe.
The bulk of the frontline fast-bowlers were sidelined with different injury problems. It is known that only two fast bowlers were near about 100 percent fit for games ahead of the Australia series though the series was postponed by Cricket Australia on security grounds.
Minhajul Abedin Nannu, member of BCB selection panel, admitted the
matter and stated that they were much concerned with their leading fast bowlers for their injuries.
“Since last four months we were worried about our pace-bowlers. We have a pool of 10-12 fast-bowlers, who sharpened themselves under High Performance (HP) programme. But most of them were 60-80 percent fit as per the physio,” said Minhajul Abedin yesterday.
“It was worried matter that only two fast bowlers were near about 100 percent fit before the Australia series. Now only six bowlers are good in shape,” Nannu told media at his BCB office. “If we cannot work on fast-bowling in advance then we have to suffer for it ahead. If we can take care of at least 12 bowlers in the next one year, that will be great for us,” he added.
The former skipper said that they will organise a talent hunt programme on pace bowling after the end of the Zimbabwe series. “We have taken a plan for talent hunt programme. We will soon start it. We will take some players from first division for it. We will go at divisional level to take some raw. We have to utilise our national fast-bowling coach,” he thought.
“Some players of the HP played well in the NCL. Under-19 players also played well. We had no significant activities of U-19 since 2010. So, we don’t get potential players. But now they are playing well. That is good thing for us.”
“We will try to explore some batting all-rounders that were much-needed for the team. We want to enrich our pipeline stock. If we could make our ‘A’ team stronger then the national team will also be stronger,” Nannu opined.
The selector said that they will announce the final squad for the Zimbabwe series within Sunday. “Inside the next two-day break of their practice, we have thought of announcing the final squad of Bangladesh for the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe. We have a practice match ahead. We want to announce both teams simultaneously. So, we take a bit time for the final squad,” he said.
Abedin said that he expects slower wicket than sporting wickets in the next home series against Southern African nation.
“We mainly bank on spin at home yard. We mull to fierce our opponent by the web of slower deliveries. We’ve such kind of plan in the series. We get an extra advantage to get slower wicket than sporting wicket. It’s a bit difficult for Zimbabwean batsmen to bat in the slower wicket as
the trend of their wicket is bouncy,” he pointed out. “We should take the series seriously. After the end of the last home series against South Africa, we didn’t virtually play any international match. On the other hand, our opponent played a good number of matches last few months.
But our players are spending busy time to play in the National Cricket League (NCL). Some players of the national team meanwhile toured in India and South Africa recently.”
“After losing series against Afghanistan, they will be on back foot. But in one day, we have no chance to take them lightly. We have a good record since the last three home series. In that sense, we will do better against Zimbabwe,” Nannu thought.
“Our team is now experienced enough. Players have enough capability to adjust with the situation. They played longer version cricket. I think it will be beneficial for them as they could bat in longer period after playing it. Bowlers have also
bowled in the same manner. That thing makes them fit mentally and physically for the games.”
