Four people, including a couple, were killed and two others injured by separate strikes of lightning in Sariakandi and Nandigram upazilas of Bogura yesterday. Five cattle were also killed by the lightning. In Sariakandi, a couple died on the spot and two others suffered injuries in a lightning strike while they were returning home with cattle at Dakatmara char of Karnibari union around 3:30pm, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sariakandi Police Station Al Ameen. Five of their cattle were also killed on the spot. The deceased were identified as Amirul Islam, 40, son of Nuru Pramanik, and his wife Faima Begum, 32. Two others--Tania Khatun and Sumon Mia-- were also injured in the incident. Elsewhere, farmer Sumon Mia, 32, was killed on the spot when he was struck by lightning while threshing jute in a pond near his home at Nijbatia char village in Sariakandi upazila, added OC Al Ameen. In Nandigram, Abdul Barik, 33, of village Kocugari, was struck by lightning in the municipality area and was killed on the spot, said Nondigram Municipality Mayor Kamrul Hasan Siddique.
