A primary teachers’ recruitment racket has been busted by detective branch of Barisal Metropolitan Police, with arrest of 24 fraudsters including 10 women. However, the hunt is on for the gang leader who is absconding. The police on Friday raided 25 centres where the recruitment exam was being held and arrested four cheats identified as Liton Chakraborty of Kawnia; Aziz Rari of Uzirpur; Ainal Haque of Mohipur; and Yunus of Kalapara in Patuakhali. They also seized sample answer papers from last year, a list of 300 examinees, cash, laptops, desktops, printers and other equipment. A total 21,363 had been enlisted as examinees. Senior Assistant Commissioner and BMP spokesperson Abu Sayed said acting on a tip-off, police raided the area Friday afternoon and were able to arrest four of the criminals. However, leader of the gang Md. Jewel Mollah managed to flee from the scene after he came to know about the raid. Police sources said the gang, which had taken shelter in a house in Jhawtala in the city ten days ago, collected Tk. 50,000 to 5 lakh from each of the 300 examinees for the recruitment exam for assistant teacher (primary).
Abu said after interrogation of the four arrested accused, police raided different hotels in the city and nabbed 20 other members of the gang out of which 10 were women. They include: Sharmin Aktar 23, Naznin Nahar Lina 19, Akhi Noor 2, Rokeya 29, Jannatul Begum 24 and Miraz Sikdar 27 of Muladi Upazila; Shamima 23, Sharmin Begum 22, Md. Nurul Amin 27, Md. Hannan 29, Md. Faisal and Md. Shahidul Islam 27 of Mehendigang Upozila; Md. Habibur Rahman 25 of Bakargang Upozila; Sathi Begum 23, Jannatul Haque 24 and Shahina Begum 29 of Hizla Upozila of Barisal district; Md. Resel 20 of Vandaria Upozila of Pirojpur district; Md. Rezaul Karim 27 and Md. Mamunoor Rashid of Sirajgang district.
