Awami League Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim yesterday blamed the BNP-Jamaat for the ongoing sabotage and violence in the country and said there is no existence of the Middle East based militant outfit- the Islamic State (IS)- in Bangladesh, reports BSS. Selim said the BNP-Jamaat are committing the acts of sabotage and then shifting the blame to the IS although the terror outfit has no existence in the country. The Awami League leader made the remarks while addressing as chief guest a function in Gopalganj yesterday afternoon.
Gopalganj Ex-Model School Students Association (GEMSSA) of SM Model High School organised a two-day reunion to mark the school's 140th founding anniversary with its president Advocate Molla Mohammad Abu Kawser in the chair.
Reunion celebration committee convener and director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benzir Ahmed, Police Super SM Emran Hossain, ex-student Advocate Nowsheruzzaman and general secretary of GEMSSA Mrinal Kanti Roy Chowdhury also spoke at the function.
Sheikh Selim, also lawmaker of Gopalganj-3 constituency, said that the UN has awarded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for suppressing militancy. Sounding a note of warning, he said no militants and terrorists would be spared.
He accused the BNP-Jamaat nexus of the killing of two foreign nationals for damaging image of the country abroad, adding, "BNP leaders name were surfaced during investigations of the murders." He said law enforcers have already got proofs of BNP leader and commissioner Quayum's involvement in the killing of foreign national. The names of other culprits will come out after the arrest of Quayum, he added.
