A seven-year-old schoolgirl was hacked to death by criminals at Chakpara Morol Market, in Sreepur upazila, early yesterday (Friday). The victim has been identified as Nazneen Akter, daughter of Akkas Ali of the area. She was a class-1 student at the Chakpara Government Primary School. Aminur Rahman, sub-inspector of Sreepur model police station, said Akkas Ali had abandoned the girl's mother, Asma Begum, and married another woman. Asma also married another man and lived at Konabari in Gazipur while Nazneen lived with Asma's parents in Chakpara. On Thursday, Nazneen’s grandfather Hasmat Ali Hashu, went to a relative’s house. Nazneen and her grandmother went to bed at around 2:30am yesterday. At that time, three men , claiming to be policemen, entered the house and took Nazneen outside and hacked her. Hearing screams, a woman from the neighbourhood rushed to the house and found Nazneen lying dead in a pool of blood in the yard. Nazneen’s uncle Ripon said there was a dispute over land between Hasmat Ali and his neighbours. The murder could be a fallout of that, he added.
