Young talented Bangladeshi director Abu Shahed Emon’s Oscar nominated film, ‘Jalaler Golpo’, is currently participating in three international film festivals in different countries. ‘Jalaler Golpo’ will be screened today and tomorrow in ‘Asian World Film Festival’ (AWFF) at Los Angeles, USA that started on October 26 and will continue till November 2. In the festival, ‘Jalaler Golpo’ is fighting with a total number of 13 Oscar nominated Asian films—‘Court’ (India), ‘100 Yen Love’ (Japan), ‘Heavenly Nomadic’ (Kyrgyzstan), ‘How To Win At Checkers’ (Thailand), ‘Jackpot’ (Vietnam), ‘Sivas’ (Turkey), ‘Moira’ (Georgia), ‘Talakjung vs Tulke’ (Nepal), ‘Utopia’ (Afghanistan) and others in the main competitive category.
Apart from participating in AWFF, the film will also participate in the ‘Phnom Penh International Film Festival’ at Cambodia that is scheduled to run from November 2 to November 12, and ‘Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival’ (PAAFF) in the USA, which will take place from November 12 to November 22. Director Abu Shahed Emon will attend the PAAFF on the day of screening of his film ‘Jalaler Golpo’ on November 15.
The plot of the film ‘Jalaler Golpo’ centered just as Moses was found in the river Nile, an infant is rescued from a river, and adopted by Miraj, Karim and Sajib in turns over the years, only to be abandoned at the various stages of his life. From innocence to becoming a gangster, the unpredictable currents of Jalal’s journey prove that he is truly a child of the river.
The key cast of the film includes, Toukir Ahmed, Mosharraf Karim, Moushumi Hamid, Sharmimala, Nur-e-Alam Nayan and Metali Das. The central character ‘Jalal’ is jointly played by newcomer Arafat Rahman and Mohammad Emon.
Produced under the banner of the Boutique Cinema Project of Impress Telefilm, ‘Jalaler Golpo’ saw its county release this month. Before its country release, the film Jalaler Golpo’ travelled to all over the world and received best film, best actor awards in the 19th edition of the ‘Avanca International Film Festival’ in Portugal, enjoyed its world premiere in 64th ‘International Film festival Mannheim-Heidelberg’ in Germany and in the main competitive category named ‘New Current’ of the festival. Director Emon received the best newcomer director award in 7th Jaipur Film Fesitval in India. In addition, the film was also screened as the only Bangladeshi film at the International Film Festival of India 2014’ (IFFI) in Goa, India. l
