The by-election to Maulvibazar-3 parliamentary constituency, that fell vacant due to the death of the Awami League lawmaker and former Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, will be held on December 8.
Chief Election commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the schedule of the Maulvibazar-3 (Sadar and Rajnagar) by polls yesterday at a press conference at the EC Media Centre in the capital.
According to the schedule, the last date of submitting nomination is November 11 while the nominations would be scrutinised on November 14 and the last date of withdrawal of nomination is November 22.
Former Social Welfare Minister and lawmaker Syed Mohsin Ali passed away at a hospital in Singapore on September 14, causing the Moulvibazar-3 constituency to fall vacant.
Replying to query, the CEC said that the election observers and journalists will need permission from the presiding officers or assistant presiding officers to enter the election centres.
Referring to the upcoming Tangail by-polls, the CEC was asked by journalists if the EC is acting like an opponent instead of playing the role of a referee in the polls regarding the nomination of Krishak-Sramik-Janata League president Quader Siddqui. The CEC replied that it is a matter of the court to decide upon the issue.
