2 jailed for illegal sand lifting

A mobile court in Sakhipur jailed two illegal sand lifters for 15 days on Wednesday. The accused are Nazim Uddin, 60 and Saiful Islam, 35 of Sakhipur. Three dredgers have been put out of order at the instruction of the mobile court, led by executive magistrate and upazila nirbahi officer. UNO of Sakhipur said a few people have been lifting sand illegally from the River Bonsai for a long time with the help of dredgers. This has created erosion of the river at many areas. The drive was conducted in the afternoon, when to persons, engaged in dredging work, were arrested and jailed by the court. Cases were lodged against four others, identified as Mithu Mia, Nazrul Islam, Raihan and Nurunnabi, who are also involved in illegal sand lifting. They had managed to escape immediately before the drive.
