Besides Mohun Bagan Athletic Club, Kolkata Mohammedan Sporting Club also confirmed to participation in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament scheduled to take place during the third week of October, while another Kolkata giants East Bengal also gave their verbal consent yesterday.
Organised by the Chittagong Abahani Limited it would be the third edition of the only international club cup football tournament of the country. In the first edition East Bengal and Mohammedan took part in the tournament while in the second edition there was no Indian clubs.
This time the chairman of the Chittagong Abahani football committee Tarafdar Ruhul Amin himself went to Kolkata to invite all the traditional giants and convinced them to take part in the tournament has been organised after the name of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Tarafdar, who had the written consent of Mohun Bagan on Friday, later on had confirmed the Mohammedan Sporting Club’s participation and had the verbal consent from the King Fisher East Bengal to play in the Sheikh Kamal Club Cup yesterday.
Tarafdar, when talking to the reporters yesterday from Kolkata said, “We have already had a discussion meeting with the general secretary of Mohammedan Sporting Kamar Uddin and other high ups of the club and they agreed to play.”
But about the East Bengal, Taradar said, “We have also met the officials of East Bengal and they agreed but told us that they would have to maintain some formalities with their sponsors, after a discussion with the sponsors they will confirm.”
But the big merchant from the Port City, who is also the chairman of the Saif Sporting Club, one of the Bangladesh Premier League teams said that three home teams – Bashundhara Kings, Abahani Limited and the hosts Chittagong Abahani Limited will take part in the tournament..
While in the eight teams tournament, rest of the two teams might be from Thailand, Nepal or Bhutan.
