Ten female athletes of the upcoming South Asian Games have so far been inflicted with dengue and other fevers in their respective camps in the capital. Dengue fever spread out among the athletes when three players, one each from basketball, kabaddi and kho kho contacted dengue at Sultana Kamal Women Sports Complex in Dhanmondi.
Bristi Biswas of kabaddi, Asma and Sumaiya of kho kho were the three athletes to contact dengue fever on July 30 and admitted into the nearby Bangladesh Medical College and Hospital. The rest seven players have been afflicted with dengue fever hospitalised within two days after July 30.
Following the fever of three players, the number of dengue-inflicted went up and rose to 10. The athletes have been afflicted by the mosquito-borne disease.

Officer of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), informed that at least three of them Jannatul Nayeem Bristi of Kabaddi, Asma of Kho Kho and Bristi of Basketball were found positive with dengue virus.
“We are trying to control the situation and don’t want to take any risk, as in case of any fever we give them proper treatment without any delay,” said Shafiqur Rahman.
Athlete Happy, Priyanka, Hasna, Sompa and Asma, Muslima of Kabaddi and Bristi of basketball are under treatment at the Bangladesh Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, five women athletes – Bristi, Mitu Akhter, Tasmina, Rekha and Sraboni — were admitted into the Bangladesh Police Hospital, among them, Sraboni is suffering from both fever and diarrhoea. After medical tests, they were diagnosed with normal fever and sent back to the camp after first aid.
It was alleged that difficulties in giving treatment to the patients due to negligence of camp commanders, who allegedly didn’t deliver their duties sincerely and continuously.
