In southwest China's Yunnan Province, high summer is the time for the Yi ethnic group to celebrate fire. The Torch Festival, also known as Fire Festival, is the biggest summer holiday for the Yi people in southwest China. It has been celebrated for centuries in the sixth month of the Yi calendar. During the festival, various activities such as singing, dancing, horse racing, wrestling and bonfire parties are held. With an estimated population of 8.7 million people, the Yi ethnic group is the largest ethnic minority in Yunnan, and the sixth largest in China.
