A Bangladeshi national was shot to death by the Border Security Force (BSF) of India near Putkhali border area of Benapole early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Monirul Islam, 32, son of Monsur Ali, a resident of Balunda village in Putkhali union and a cattle trader, reports UNB. Victim’s brother Saiful Islam said the BSF members from Angrail camp fired gunshots at Monirul while he was returning home along with cattle from India early morning, leaving him dead on the spot.
The Indian police from Gaighata Police Station of Chabbis Pargana district took away his body, said Lt Cl Abdur Rahim, commanding officer of BGB battalion-23. Putakhali UP Chairman Abdul Gaffar told newsmen that the youth had gone missing after going to the border to bring cattle from India. Lt Col Abdur Rahim, commanding officer of 23 Border Guard Battalion (BGB) said the BSF had informed the BGB that the Indian police had recovered the body of an unidentified youth. ‘The BGB will lodge protest and ask the BSF to handover the body if the victim is a Bangladeshi national,’ he added.
