Journalists should take advantage of the Right to Information (RTI) Act to get information for dissemination of news. This act has opened up the door for journalists seeking information. This will help reduce corruption, irregularities and mismanagement as well as ensure the rights to know. Speakers said this at a views exchange meeting on RTI Act and its ethics, arranged by District Information Office in cooperation with local journalists, at Deputy Commissioner’s office in Sirajganj district yesterday. Muhammad Kamrul Hassan, acting deputy commissioner, attended the meeting as chief guest, while District Information Officer Rejaul Karim Siddiqui presided over the programme. Speakers said some dishonest officials try to hide information. If the RTI act is properly implemented the officials will release necessary information. Among others, Mohammad Shamim Alam, additional deputy commissioner, Helal Uddin, president of Sirajganj Press Club, Fazal a Khoda Liton, general secretary of the club spoke on the occasion.
