Three workers were killed after they inhaled toxic gas of a septic tank at an under-construction factory in Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) at the port city on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Rezaul Alam, 30, son, Abdus Samad hailing from Mithapukur of Rangpur district, Shah Alam, 32, son of Motaleb hailing from Mongla of Khulna district, Arif, 28, son of Abdul Jalil, hailed from Jamalpur district. The accident took place at around 12pm in factory of Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) named SOS Outfit Limited.
Agrabad Fire service and civil defense sources said that the workers went to move bamboos which were used to construction of a septic tank of the factory about 20 days ago. During moving the bamboos inhaling toxic gas the three workers were killed. Getting the information locals rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. Contacted, Zaved Mahmud, officer-in-charger (investigation) of EPZ police station said they suspected that the three workers died inhaling toxic gas. “We have recovered their bodies and sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy. After getting the autopsy report it will be more clear the reason behind the death,” added Zaved Mahmud
