Joint General Secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL) Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif yesterday rubbished foreigners’ claims that there is an IS presence in Bangladesh and alleged that international quarters were trying to spread such falsehoods about the IS being involved in recent killings of two foreign nationals and the Hossaini Dalan bomb attack in the old capital. “There are no militant organisations in the country. This is international propaganda against the Sheikh Hasina government,” he said while addressing a preparatory meeting organised by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Bagabandhu Avenue in the city. The meeting was organised to help render the slated Jail Killing Day programme on November 3 a success. He also criticised Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) for its latest observation that the 10th parliament has become a theatre for muppet shows and added that TIB, like the foreigners, is spreading lies about the current government in a bid to weaken it. “The aims and objectives of TIB-like organisations and foreigners are the same,” he stressed. In a separate programme, Hanif, currently the Acting General Secretary of AL, accused BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia of patronising recent killings of two foreigners, the ASI killing and homemade bomb explosions in the old capital.
