The chief whip of tenth Parliament ASM Feroz yesterday alleged that the Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB) has neglected the constitution as well as parliament by saying that Jatiya Sangsad ‘has turned into a theatre of puppet show.’ While releasing the TIB’s report on Parliament Watch on 10th national parliament (2nd session to sixth session) on Sunday, the TIB executive director iftekharuzzaman said the JS has turned into a theatre of puppet show and called for an inclusive election to have an effective parliament. At a press conference organised to give reactions to the TIB’s report, the chief whip said the people want to know the income source of the TIB. “The TIB is swayed in line with instructions of its lords.”
Firoz said recently two foreigners were killed and bomb attacks were launched on Tazia procession in Old Dhaka leaving one killed. “A local axis under the patronisation of international quarters has carried out these acts to tarnish the country’s image,” he added. “Against this backdrop,” he went on saying, “the TIB has released its report and made such remarks about parliament.” The chief whip, who was flanked by several whips at the press conference at the media centre in the parliament complex, launched a scathing attack on the anti-corruption watchdog, TIB. “The BNP would criticise parliament staying outside parliament, kill people by setting buses on fire, kill foreigners and work as a collaborator of fundamentalists, but the TIB says nothing about these,” Firoz voiced his anger at the TIB.
Asked who the international quarters are, Firoz said the international quarters are those who have been opposing Bangladesh since the liberation war. The chief whip, however, termed some of the TIB’s evaluation on parliamentary affairs logical and sought information from the TIB about specific Member of Parliament.
