Toxic gas kills 3 in Noakhali

Three workers died after inhaling toxic gas in a septic tank at Modhyam Charpara village in Companyganj upazila on Monday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased were identifie as Zafor 25, son of Sheikh Ahmed, Zafor, 30 and Babul, 26.
Sajedur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Companyganj Police Station, said the three workers ell ill while cleaning the septic tank of one Nur’s house at the village around 9. Later, they were rushed to Companyganj Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared them dead.
‘Criminal’ held with bombs

Police in a drive arrested an alleged criminal along with five bombs from Chachra Raipara area in Sadar upazila on Sunday night, reports UNB.
The arrested was identified as Chanchal Rahman, son of Hossain, a resident of the area. He is accused in several cases filed with Kotowali Model Police Station.
On secret information, a team of police conducted a drive at the residence of Chanchal at night and arrested Chanchal with the bombs, said sub-inspector Sheikh Shoab Uddin, in-charge of Chachra Police outpost.
However, sensing the presence of police his two other associate fled away.
A case was filed with the Kotowali Model Police Station under the Explosive Substances Act 1908.
7 get life term for murder

A Mymensingh court yesterday sentenced seven people, including a father and his son, to life term imprisonment in a murder case. The convicts were also fined Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer three more months in jail, court sources said. The convicts are Abdul Quddus, 55, his son Abdul Jabber, 30, three brothers--Abu Taher, 31, Abu Sayed, 38 and Abul Kalam, 40 – and Rafiqul Islam, 30, and Lal Miah alias Lalu, 42.
According to the case story, the convicts, led by Abdul Quddus, hacked and beat up Dr Harunur Rashid at Katlasen Bazaar in Mymensingh Sadar upazila on November 11 in 2009 over a previous enmity. He died on the spot. Later, victim’s brother Mamunur Rashid filed a case with Kotwali police station on the following day. After investigation, police pressed a charge-sheet against the seven convicts.
