The construction works on 58 Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) Battalion headquarters is nearing completion in Jhenidah.
According to sources, the work was inaugurated by the then Director General of BGB, Major General Aziz Ahmed in December 2012 at an estimated cost of Tk 29 crores in Moheshpur upazila.
Sources said the headquarters is being built on 25 acres of land. The BGB bought 13.93 acres of land from the public and 11.24 acres of land from roads and highway for the purpose.
It includes soldier barrack, rest house, JCO mess, garage, quarter guard building, electric sub-station, generator room, water reservoir and magazine store. About 90 percent of the work has already been completed, they said. Chuadanga BGB-6 commander lieutenant colonel SM Moniruzzaman said the work will be completed in scheduled time.
In the beginning, some local people showed opposition to the construction work there, but later they themselves came forward to helping the work, he added. An employment opportunity has been created with the establishment of the BGB 58 battalion headquarters.
