�Dairy sector can generate more jobs�

RANGPUR: Extensive self-employment opportunities could be generated among the rural youths by boosting the country’s dairy sector that would in turn bring about revolutionary changes in the rural economy. The observation came in the concluding ceremony of a 10-day training course on ‘Rearing Cow’ organised by Pirganj Upazila Department of Youth Development (DYD) for unemployed youths at Ekbarpur Dakshin Para village in the upazila yesterday.
The training course was arranged under the Project on Strengthening Training Programme at Upazila Level for Creation of Employment and Self-employment of Unemployed Youths in seven northern districts.
Twenty-five unemployed male and female youths of Mithipur union under Pirganj upazila participated in the course to acquire practical knowledge, technology and skill on rearing cow and domestic dairy farm activities.
Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Mazharul Islam attended the concluding ceremony as the chief guest with Upazila Animal Resources Officer Masudar Rahman in the chair.
Upazila Animal Resources Officer laid emphasis on enhancing cow rearing for increasing milk production through exploring the prospective diary sector to eradicate poverty and bring about self-employment opportunities for the rural youths.
The chief guest called upon the participants for making proper use of the knowledge they acquired from the training course in flourishing the diary sector and increasing milk production to achieve self-reliance and strengthen the rural economy.
He put special emphasis on exploration of the prospective diary sector through proper utilisation of the facilities being provided by the government, improving marketing networks and setting up of milk-processing industries in the rural areas.
Upazila Agriculture Officer of the Department of Agriculture Extension Samir Chandra Ghosh and Credit Supervisor of Pirganj Upazila Department of
Youth Development Mosrefa Khatun Bithi also spoke.
