Conspiracy on to save real killers of Rifat: Minni

Staff Reporter, Dhaka

Ayesha Siddiqa Minni yesterday alleged that conspiracies are being hatched against her to save the ‘real killers’ of her husband, Rifat Sharif, who was brutally hacked in broad daylight in Barguna. She was addressing the media in her house, a day after Rifat’s father had accused his daughter-in-law as the mastermind behind the murder. “The group known as 007 is very powerful in Barguna. They’re putting pressure on my father-in-law to influence Rifat’s murder probe,” she said.

Describing her father-in-law’s allegations as false and baseless, Minni said: “My husband was hacked to death right in front of me on June 26.” She also said that she could not save her husband from the attackers despite her attempts and no one came forward to help her. “I was made the first witness in the case without being charged. But suddenly allegations are being levelled against me to mislead the investigation!” she added.

Minni said Nayan Bond himself is a drug addict and dealer. Cases have been filed against him. “He used to stalk me for a long time. He threatened to kill my father and brother. That’s why I never opened my mouth,” she claimed.

“My father-in-law is sick. He’s become hysterical after his son was killed. A group is hatching a plot against me after murdering my husband. They’re posting negative and distasteful posts on social media after editing photos and videos. Their purpose is to divert the real incident. The group who created the ‘007’ possesses pelf and power,” she mentioned.

“Many have raised questions about my role after seeing the CCTV footage. But no one tried to find out the truth,” she said.

Minni also said Rifat had gone to her college on the day of the killing. He had told her to meet his father outside. “But when I got out, his father wasn’t there. Rifat requested me to go out with him when Rishan Farazi and Rifat Farazi took hold of him. I was taken aback by the sudden turn of events and started following them. When I saw them beating him up, I tried to save him, but all my efforts went in vain,” she added.

She expressed gratitude to the administration and the home minister for giving her protection and called on the Prime Minister to ensure justice.

Earlier, on Friday, Abdul Halim Dulal, father of slain Rifat, demanded that  Minni be arrested for her alleged involvement in the murder.

Holding a press conference at the Barguna Press Club, Rifat’s father claimed that Ayesha was involved in the killing.
