Deputy Minister for Water Resources Enamul Haq Shamim yesterday said river erosion in riverine Bangladesh is a common phenomenon as the government has taken project to address the problem effectively.
The government is giving priority to the areas where educational institution, hospitals and places of worships are vulnerable to erosion; Shamim said while visiting erosion affected Kustia Government Primary School at Shibalaya Upazila here.
The deputy minster said the government would take permanent measures for protection of all installations and structures from erosion.
He announced allocation of Taka 1.25 crore for conducting river bank protection work in Manikgonj.
Director General of Water Development Board Mahfuzur Rahman, Chief Engineer Akhil Kumar Sarkar, Superintendent Engineer Abdul Matin Sarkar, District Council chairman Golam Mohiuddin, Upazila Chairman Rezaur Rahman Khan were present.
Earlier the deputy minister visited erosion of Kaliganga River bank and erosion effected Ramzan ali High School of the Upazila.
