One killed in road accident   
A man was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Kosabo area on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway under Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district yesterday morning. The deceased was Abdul Kader Bhuyan, a resident Hatabo area of the upazila. Police said the accident took place when a truck hit a battery-run auto rickshaw in the area at about 6 am, leaving three auto rickshaw passengers injured. The injured were sent to a local clinic where Kader succumbed to his injuries.       

2 drug peddlers held in Ctg  

Detective Branch (DB) Police in a drive arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 20,000 yaba tablets in Amirbag Residential Area under Chawkbazar police station of Chittagong early Sunday. The arrestees were identified as Alamgir and Ayub. Police conducted a drive at three different rented houses and seized 20,000 yaba tablets and Tk 80, 000, said Babul Akter, Additional Deputy Commissioner (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.    

9 BNP-Jamaat men jailed  

A court on Sunday sent nine local leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami to jail rejecting their bail prayers in a case filed for subversive activities. As the BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists surrendered before a court and sought bail in the afternoon, Judge Enayet Hossain of district and session court sent them to jail rejecting their bail prayers.  Police sources said a total of four cases were filed against them for destructive activities during non-stop blockade of BNP-Jamaat in January 5, 2015.   

World Sight Day observed

With the theme of ''Eye service for all'', the World Sight Day-2015 was observed in Khulna city yesterday, reports BSS. Organised by Khulna Civil Surgeon Office, a discussion meeting was held at the School Health Clinic with Civil Surgeon Dr Md Yasin Ali in the chair. Deputy Director of Local Government Department Md Habibul Haque Khan addressed the meeting as chief guest. Among others, ex-civil surgeon Dr Md Hame Zamal spoke in the meeting. While addressing the meeting, the speakers stressed the need for vitamin enriched foods including green vegetables for eyesight as it is very valuable for human lives. Saying that one child and one person lose their eyesight every minute, they said the present government is working relentlessly to reach healthcare facilities including eye service at the door steps of every citizen by 2020. Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out in the city from Khulna General Hospital and ended at School Health Clinic.
