Rangpur Riders became the luckiest and stronger team than other franchisees in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) this time.
They roped in the most wanted icon of BPL, Shakib Al Hasan through lottery during the players’ draft for the forthcoming Twenty20 tournament. Along with that, the team got the new sensation Soumya Sarkar, Arafat Sunny alongside Mohammad Mithun, Saqlain Sajib, Muktar Ali, Jahurul Islam Omee, Abu Zayed Chowdhury, Murad Khan and Russell Al Mamun.
The team ensured the services of Darren Sammy and Lendl Simmons (WI), Wahab Riaz (Pak), Mohammad Nabi (Afghan), Sachitra Senanayake and Thisara Perera (SL).
They have inked deal with Bangladesh former head coach Shane Jurgensen as their coach.
Mustafa Rafiqul Islam Dipu, the owner of Rangpur Riders, admitted the matter of Shane Jurgensen and said that they have signed deal with him. “We have talked and inked deal with Shane Jurgensen. He will guide Rangpur Riders in the upcoming BPL,” Rafiqul Islam told The Independent.
A controversy between Rangpur Riders and Chittagong Vikings has been erupted regarding Sri Lankan all-rounder Tillakaratne as both team claimed that they have penned papers with him. “The matter is yet to settle. BPL governing body will give the final result of the matter about Dilshan,” he replied in a query about Tillakaratne Dilshan.
On the other hand, Comilla Victorians are looking for an overseas all-rounder for their team’s balance.
“The team has already taken Alok Kapali to fill up the void of the local stock. They are talking with another local player. Along with that, they’re searching for an all-rounder from foreign category for their team’s combination,” a close source of the team said.
