RAJSHAHI: A court here yesterday convicted a former Shibir leader and sentenced him to life imprisonment for possessing firearms in the city, reports BSS. Judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal Golam Ahmed Khalilur Rahman found the convict Saifuddin Yeahia guilty of the charge beyond doubt and pronounced the verdict in his presence. According to the court sources, in two sections of the case he was sentenced to life imprisonment and 10 years behind the bar. On a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a drive in Malopara area under Boalia Police Station on September 26, 2013 and arrested 10 Shibir activists including Yeahia, the then General Secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir of Rajshahi University unit. The team recovered a foreign pistol and some lethal weapons from his possession. Subsequently, a case was recorded with Boalia Police Station. Upon completion of investigation, police pressed charges accusing Yeahia and acquitting seven others.
