BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan yesterday alleged that they cannot hold party councils across the country due to government obstruction.
“Police are not allowing us to hold party councils across the country. They are arresting party leaders and activists, and filing false cases against them,” he said.
Khan was addressing the council session of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), an ally of the BNP-led 20-Party Alliance at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh.
He asked the party rank and file not to lose their courage while facing police harassment. “The Awami League (AL) was out of power for 21 years as a consequence of forming the one-party government. The current situation created by the AL-led government is a reminder of the BAKSAL days. So, I will request our party leaders and activists not to be frustrated,” he said.
The BNP leader alleged that the government is using police to harass BNP leaders and activists.
He said the BNP-led alliance would continue its movement to restore democracy in the country through relentless movement.
Presided over by LDP president Col (Retd) Oli Ahmed, the meeting was also addressed by LDP secretary general Redwan Ahmed and others.
