�Criminal� killed in �gunfight� with police

A listed criminal was killed allegedly in a gunfight with police at Uttar Daulatdia village in Goalondo upzila of the district on Sunday night. One police constable was also injured in the firefight, said police sources. The duty officer of Goalanda Police Station said yesterday that the deceased, identified as Arshad Bepary, 25, son of Shabuddin Bepary of village Uttar Daulatdia in Goalondo upazila of the district was a listed criminal of the district. Five cases of murder and robbery had been filed against him with Goalondo and Rajbari Police Stations, he said. A police team arrested Arshad Bepary during a raid in an abandoned house at Paddar More in Goalondo on Sunday night, said police. Following the arrest, around 20-25 associates of Arshad equipped with firearms tried to snatch him from the police. As the gang opened fire on police, the law-enforcers also returned fire. Arshad got shot during the exchange of fire and was taken to the Rajbari Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead, said police.
