Two identified persons gave death threats to 10 Election Commission (EC) officials yesterday over mobile phone demanding toll. The officials were said they would be shot if they refuse to give the money, said Asaduzzaman Arzu, deputy secretary, public relations.
He said that 10 officials were given the same kind of threat yesterday between 9:00am to 11:00am. They also threatened to kill them or kidnap their children if they fail to pay the money, said EC officials.
A general diary was registered with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in this regard, he said. The callers, who claimed their name as Petkata Babu and Shahadat, called from mobile number 01991760717.
Additional secretary, joint secretary, deputy secretary and assistant secretary -level officers were threatened from the same number.
