Govt to turn Rangpur into economic zone soon: Atiur

Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman said government has taken decision to turn Rangpur into an economic zone soon giving maximum priority on further speeding up the pace of development in the region, reports BSS from Rangpur.
Atiur said this while exchanging views with representatives of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI) and Rangpur Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RWCCI) here last night as the chief guest.
General Manager of Rangpur Branch of BB Khurshid Alam presided over the meeting arranged at the conference room of BB’s Rangpur Branch in the city.
Executive Director of BB Mahfuzur Rahman attended the meeting as the special guest.
General Managers from the Head Office of BB, former Vice-president of FBCCI Mostafa Azad Chowdhury Babu, RCCI President Abul Kashem, RWCCI President Anwara Ferdousi Poly, Directors of RCCI and RWCCI, high officials of different public and private sector banks were present.
 “I am also personally involved with the process of turning Rangpur into an economic zone and I firmly believe that Rangpur region will be developed like the other regions in the country,” he said.
Atiur directed the public and private sector banks and financial institutions for making more and more entrepreneurs and reaching hassle-free banking services to speed up development for improving socioeconomic conditions in the region.
Earlier, the BB Governor launched various CSR activities of different banks at BB’s Rangpur Branch office premises, distributed 50 bicycles of Mutual Trust Bank Limited among poor and meritorious female students of different educational institutions.
He launched Agents’ Banking of Social Islami Bank Limited and Bank Asia Limited, Online Application form-filling Programme of Janata Bank Limited for agriculture loans and distributed loans among those who opened bank accounts at Taka 10.
Besides, the BB Governor inaugurated the Governor’ Cup Football Tournament-2015 at Rangpur Stadium today and left here for Joypurhat to attend a programme there before starting for the capital city this afternoon wrapping up his three-day visit to the north.
Managing Directors, Deputy Managing Directors, Chief Executive Officers, Executive Officers, General Managers, Deputy General Managers and high officials of different public and private sector banks accompanied the BB Governor during the visit.
