The Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) yesterday filed a case against Minister Hi-tech Park Ltd at Bijoy Sarani for violating ‘Standards of Weights and Measurements Act 2018’ of the government body. The company in its ‘Minister’ brand products, including LED TV and monitors, had been using the measurement of ‘inches’ instead of ‘centimetres’, even though the BSTI Act specifically mentions the use of ‘centimetres’. Several other vigilance teams of BSTI also conducted drives at different parts of Dhaka and Gazipur. They filed nine other cases and imposed fines for flouting BSTI rules. At the Agargaon
kitchen market, BSTI filed cases against the vegetable shop of Mohammad Khokon, the meat shop of Abdur Razzak, the chicken shop of Mohammad Addoha and Rana store for not having any verification certification for the digital scales used in the shops.
In Mirpur, a sweet shop, Rosher Fota, was fined for not having the declaration of manufacturing date on the packaging. In Sheorapara, Ali Baba Sweet was fined for the same reason.
