Tri-nation series looks uncertain!

SPORTS REPORTER, DHAKA

Bangladesh are scheduled to host a tri-angular series in September with the participation of Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and the hosts Bangladesh. The series is all set to take place in between September 14-23.

But a government body that oversees the sport of the country has suspended Zimbabwe Cricket Board (ZCB) after allegations of corruption on June 22. The sports and the recreation commission last week ordered the ZCB not to hold elections for leadership positions until an investigation was conducted but the board defied order.

In such circumstances, Zimbabwe can’t send their team in Bangladesh, the fate of the series will then be uncertain. In that case, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that International Cricket Council (ICC) can take the decision what they have taken in the past regarding Zimbabwean players.

The next ICC executive board meeting will be held on July 15 in the United Kingdom (UK), just a day after the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup.

Nizamuddin also said that the tri-series is a part of FTP and their preparation for the series will not be hold off.

“It depends on International Cricket Council (ICC) what type of decision they take in this regard,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

“As per the commitment, the FTP has been prepared. Accordingly, Afghanistan will come here in our country and play Test series. Along with that, we have planning to arrange a tri-nation with the involvement of Zimbabwe and Afghanistan,” Chowdhury told media.

In past, ICC scrapped players’ payment and sent it to their respective accounts while they played international games and matches for Zimbabwe before disbursing their money to the ZCB.
