“We need to conceptualise lifelong learning in Bangladesh with special reference to special education. Reaching the people with disabilities is a time befitting issue. We can contribute to their wellbeing.” Speakers said this while addressing an inaugural ceremony of a two-day long international workshop held at the conference hall of Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) head office, Dhanmondi, Dhaka on Saturday.
They also said when the challenged children get admitted in the mainstream schools overcoming many of the challenges, they face a lot of problems including humiliation by their peers. The society needs to be made aware about the plight of the persons with disabilities.
Special Education is the only way that can help accommodate the differently-able amongst our midst. The speakers also emphasized the importance of identifying the issues pertaining to Lifelong Learning in context of special education.
Prof. Asoke Bhattachrya, Director of Bangladesh Institute of Lifelong Learning (BILL) delivered the welcome address while DAM president Kazi Rafiqul Alam presided over the program.
Vice-chancellor of Royal University of Dhaka Prof. PC Sarkar spoke as chief guest.
It is noted, in collaboration with the Department of Special Education of Stockholm University, Bangladesh Institute of Lifelong Learning is organizing this workshop where 60 persons from different professionals organizations of Bangladesh, India and Sweden are taking part here.
