Nurses studying at Nursing Training College and working at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) staged a demonstration boycotting classes and duties. They continued their agitation programme for the second day yesterday, to press home their four-point demand that includes creating separate cadre posts for nurses in Bangladesh Civil Service.
Their other demands are increasing intern allowance to Tk 20,000 from Tk 6,000, raising stipend to Tk 5,000 from Tk 2,500, and upgrading all nursing institutes as full-fledged colleges.
The protest programme was called by Bangladesh Basic Graduate Student Nurses Association in front of the training college on SBMCH campus.
The students announced to continue their agitation programme till fulfilment of their demands.
Participants of the rally said that it was the demands of nursing students studying at both public and private nursing colleges.
