De Spin Ghar Bazan of Afghanistan fired up lately to come back from a goal down when they trounced Solid SC of Sri Lanka by 3-1 to move into the semifinal of the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament in style yesterday.
Held at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong, in the day’s first match Spin Ghar Bazan blasted three late goals in a quick succession to down the Solid SC of Sri Lanka.
Olayemi put Solid SC into lead while Mustafa Afsari, Reza and Golam Hazrat struck one goal each steer the Spin Ghar to book their place in the semifinal.
Chittagong Abahani Limited will be their semifinal opponents and the match will take place on October 27.
Spin Ghar Bazan, who began the their campaign with an impressive solitary goal win over the Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club, also shared points with Kolkata Mohammedan Sporting Club in a hard fought 3-3 drawn match.
On the other hands, Solid FC, who started the tournament with a 2-1 win over Kolkata Mohammedan, brightened their chance after taking the first half lead and also looked better in the ball possession in the full first 45 minutes game.
However, in a slow starter game Solid SC were in a bit commanding position dominating the early stage of the match. Olayemi, one of the foreign recruits, who scored the lone goal during their 1-6 defeat at the hands Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club put of Solid SC into lead with a superb solo effort.
Olayemi dodged past two defenders to enter into the area after receiving a through pass and shot past the
Afghan team goalkeeper into far post (1-0).
Sri Lankan team, inspired by their first half lead, also began the second half with commanding attitude and kept the Spin Bazan under pressure for a long.
The day’s favourites sparkle just at the midway of the second half and came to equalise the margin on 72nd minute with a quick attack down the right side with Mustafa Afsari scoring with a grounder strike from inside the box (1-1).
Spin Ghar kept the pressure with same fashion and went ahead on 78th minute through Reza who blasted a right footer having a ball from counter attack (2-1).
The formidable Spin Ghar completed the tally 3-1 on 88th minute when Golam Hazrat sealed the victory with a cool finish off a counter attack (3-1).
SATURDAY”S RESULTS
Meanwhile, Chittagong Abahani Limited moved into the semifinal after outplaying Karachi Electric FC on Saturday while Dhaka Abahani Limited were eliminated when they ended their leg phase with a 0-0 draw with East Bengal of Kolkata.
