Bangladesh team management is facing deep problem with the frontline fast bowlers as the bulk of them are sidelined with injuries struggling to be fit ahead of the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe.
Taskin Ahmed, Rubel Hossain and Shafiul Islam were sidelined with injury during the last India A team series. The trio is struggling to be recuperated before the home series.
Bangladesh ODI and T20 skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza also sidelined with dengue fever. But the selector is hopeful of returning Mashrafe and Taskin before the home series.
“We talked with physio, who told us Taskin is 80 percent fit and it is possible to get him before the practice match of October 5,” said Minhajul Abedin Nannu.
“We’re concern over Mashrafe but we’ll wait till the last day of the onset of the series for getting him in the team,” Abedin, a member of BCB selection panel, told media yesterday.
About the final squad said, the former skipper said, “We’ve already made a draft. We’ll soon place it in the board after consulting with head coach, who is now out of the country.”
“We’re not satisfied with the performance of the pacers, who are currently playing in the National Cricket League. So, we’re thinking about the pacers, who are traveling in Africa with A team,” he added.
Tigers’ preparation camp for the forthcoming series is scheduled to kick-start from October 29.
Hathurusingha is expected to land Dhaka alongside other coaches including assistant- cum-spinning bowling coach Nuwan Kalpage, fast-bowling coach Heath Steak, strength and conditioning coach Mario Villavarayen on October 28.
The series, comprised of two ODI and three Twenty20, is knocking at the door as only nine days remained of it. The visiting side is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on November 2.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is likely to declare the final squad for the series within the next three days. Minhajul Abedin Nannu admitted the matter and said that they have prepared a draft of the squad for the series.
With other coaching staffs, Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha left the country just after the postponement of the Australia series in the first week of October.
