Kayes ton helps Khulna give befitting reply

Despite Imrul Kayes’ unbeaten ton, Khulna Division have still  a deficit of 195 runs with seven wickets intact to overlap Dhaka Metro’s first innings knock at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah yesterday.
Naeem Islam and Dhiman Ghosh hit centuries that bolstered Rangpur Division’s first innings total to 463-10 against Dhaka Division at the close of match on the Day-2 in the Walton National Cricket League (NCL).
Dhaka Division were trailing by 385 runs with eight wickets intact in the Tier-1 encounter at Shaheed Chandu Stadium (SCS) in Bogra.
Elsewhere at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Sylhet Division required eight runs to take lead while they have one wicket in hands.  
Rajshahi Division were struggling against the visiting Barisal Division as they needed 66 runs to surpass first innings collection at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.
Khulna vs Metro
Dhaka Metro resumed with 340-5 and added 59 runs at the cost of five wickets. Mahmudullah Ryad, who clobbered century after Shamshur Rahman on the first day, had dismissed for 132, scoring three runs with his overnight 129. Sharifullah made a little resistance against Khulna’s combined pace and spin bowling attack as Sharifullah went for 39 starting with 16.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who snapped two wickets on the previous day, bagged another three wickets with his spin magic. He gave away 96 runs to take five wickets in his kitty. In reply, Khulna Division finished the day with 204-4 thanks to Imrul Kayes’ unbeaten 110. Kayes plundered 11 fours and half-a-dozen sixes so far in his 192-ball innings.
Dhaka vs Rangpur
Resuming the second day at 263-3, Rangpur Division added 200 runs before being all-out in 61 overs.  Tariq Ahmed, Naeem Islam and Dhiman Ghosh struck centuries for Rangpur.
Overnight batsman Naeem Islam, who was 10 runs shy of century in the previous day, added 10 runs to complete the credible century. Islam clubbed one dozen boundaries in his patient 299-ball 100 before being caught behind the stumps.
As soon as the proceedings of the day, Nasir Hossain was trapped lbw off Dewan Sabbir for 63. Hossain added only two runs with his overnight 61.
After the exit of Nasir and Naeem, Dhiman Ghosh led the charge and cracked a string of invaluable partnerships including 77-run for the seventh wicket with Suhrawardi Shuvo and another 56-run with Bishawnath Halder for the eighth wicket stand, which surpassed the 400-run make for the team.
Ghosh smashed an unbeaten 101 off 180 with the help of 13 boundaries at his 263-minute stay at wickets.
Dewan Sabbir scalped four wickets for 96. Nazmul Islam took three and Mohammad Sharif claimed a brace for Dhaka Division.
Responding Rangpur Division’s first innings total of 463, Dhaka Division put on 78-2 before the bails were drawn for the third day. Mosharraf Hossain Rubel remained unbeaten on 26 and Roqibul Hasan was just one not out.
Chittagong vs Sylhet
Responding Chittagong’s first innings of 270, Sylhet Division made a solid start but they could yet to stretch their innings through big partnerships. They finished the day at 262-9. Together with Ezaz Ahmed, skipper Alok Kapali shared the highest 52-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Kapali made 46 off 93, hitting five fours as well as one six. Enamul Haue Jr. remained at stumps on 13. Khaled Ahmed was unbeaten on naught.
Nabil Samad captured three, while Mohammad Saifuddin and Iftekhar Sajjad bagged two wickets apiece.
Rajshahi vs Barisal
Overnight batsman Shahriar Nafees’ hopes were shattered when he walked back to the pavilion being trapped lbw adding just one run with 79. Al-Amin smashed half-century after Nafees though Salman Hossain missed for five being out for 45. Al-Amin struck 71off 95 with 11 boundaries before caught off Nazmul Hossain by Nihaduzzaman.
Shafaq Al Zabir and Sanjamul Islam claimed four wickets each for Rajshahi. Nihaduzzaman snapped up a brace.
In reply, Rajshahi Division mustered 126-3 with Junaid Siddique making 58 and Mushfiqur Rahim 11.
