Road crashes kill four in 2 districts

Four people including a teacher were killed in road accidents in Mymensingh and Chandpur yesterday. In Mymensingh, three people were killed as a lorry hit a truck on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka upazila early yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Taijul Islam, 30, the lorry driver, its helper Bablu Mia, 22, and fish trader Taher Uddin, 47, all hailed from Netrakona’s Mohanganj upazila, said sub-inspector (SI) Abdus Salam, in-charge of Bhoradoba Highway Police Outpost in Bhaluka.

SI Abdus Salam said the accident took place in Mehrabari area at about 4:45 am when the Dhaka-bound fish-laden lorry hit the truck from behind, leaving three people dead on the spot, the SI said. Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee the scene. A case was lodged in this connection.

Our Chandpur correspondent adds: A school teacher was killed in a road accident at Hajigonj Bazar on Chandpur-Cumilla highway. Towhidul Islam, 40, a teacher of Joypura SRMS High School of Ramgonj Upazila met the tragic end of his life when a pickup van collided head-on with the auto rickshaw he was riding.

Two more passengers of the auto rickshaw sustained injuries in the accident who are now undergoing treatment at Hajigonj Upazila Health Complex. Police seized the pick up van. But its driver could not be arrested.
