UNB, Khulna

The Forest Department has imposed a 65-day ban on fishing in all canals in the Sundarbans from July 1 to August 31 to ensure safe breeding and preservation of fish and other aquatic animals. This fishing ban has been imposed immediately after the end of a 65-day ban on fishing in the Bay of Bengal that continued till June 30.

Fishing will remain prohibited in nearly 400 canals to ensure safe breeding and preservation of fish and stop illegal fishing using poison. Canals with more than 25 feet width will remain out it purview of the ban, said Forest Department officials.

East Sundarban's Chandpai Range Officer Md Shahin Kabir said all the fishermen were informed about the ban earlier. However, limited passes will be provided for fishing in the big rivers.

Sundarban Management Committee, Community Patrol Group (CPG), Village Tiger Response Teams (VTRT) and Wild Team will work to implement the ban along with the Forest Department.
