Police arrested a suspect in connection with Friday's murder attempt on a painter in front of his wife at Bokterkandi in Bandar upazila. The arrestee was identified as Altaf alias Alto, 55, brother of Balto Amjad, the prime accused. Painter Shahin, 42, was hacked in front of his wife Boby allegedly by Balto Amjad and his associates at Bakterkandi on Friday morning.
Boby filed a case with Bandar Police Station accusing five named and several unknown people on Friday night. Contacted, officer-in-charge of the police station Rafiqul Islam told UNB that police have already arrested Altaf over the incident. He was produced before a magistrate court on Saturday seeking a five-day remand, the OC said.
Meanwhile, locals said Amjad's associates, including Altaf, attacked the house of Shahin on Friday evening after the filing of the case. On information, a team police rushed in and arrested Altaf and recovered several sharp weapons from the spot while others fled the scene.
