Different banks have provided Tk 2.5 crore from their corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds for the livelihood improvement of the former-enclave peoples in northern district of Panchagar, reports UNB.
The money was spent on implementing different healthcare and procurement of agro-machinery procurement.
The procurement includes 334 tube-wells, 192 sanitary latrine, 10 spray machines, huge medicines, 19 computers for modernisation of education, 1300 school bags, construction of primary and secondary schools at a cost of Tk 42 lakh, academic scholarship of Tk 15.50 lakh, 100 school benches, 90 swing machines, 183 bicycles, 110 rickshaw-vans, 146 bundles of corrugated tin-sheet, 30 cows, 5,100 blankets, solar power systems, and culvert construction.
Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman, who is visiting the area, formally handed over the goods among the residents of the former enclaves at a function at Dahola Khagrabari village in Debiganj upazila of Panchagar district on Sunday morning.
Chief executives of different banks which contributed from their CSR funds to the initiative were also present at the function. Bangladesh Bank mobilised the funds and organised the function.
Speaking on the occasion, the central bank governor said a new horizon has opened for the people of 111 former enclave people through the historic initiative of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Norendra Modi on August 1 this year.
